Monotype Imaging (MTI) is a leading global provider of text imaging solutions. Our technologies and fonts enable the display and printing of high-quality content. MTI’s software technologies have been widely deployed and embedded within a range of consumer electronics devices, including laser printers, digital copiers, mobile phones, digital televisions, set-top boxes, navigation devices and digital cameras, as well as in numerous software applications and operating systems.
MTI combines these proprietary technologies with access to more than 10,000 typefaces that includes some of the most widely used designs in the world including popular names like Helvetica and Times New Roman. We also license our typefaces to creative and business professionals through custom font design services, direct sales and our e-commerce Web sites: fonts.com, itcfonts.com, linotype.com and faces.co.uk.
Our software is integrated into applications and embedded in electronics ranging from mobile phones to laser printers, manages compression, scaling, color and layout. Allowing customers access to thousands of typefaces, the Company generates most of its revenues from OEM sales, though it also licenses its fonts to creative and business professionals.

We are focused on growth and are searching for the right Sales Director who will be responsible for new business development activity and design win closures for Monotype Imaging’s font scaling technologies to Japanese Consumer Electronics Other Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s).
This is a newly created position based in Japan with opportunities to make a significant contribution to the company and our growth. We are a fun place to work and are looking not only for the right competencies but also the perfect cultural fit.
Responsibilities:
- Extensive sales activities spending 80% of time on direct selling activities the balance of time for strategic planning and various meetings.
- Coordinate planned revenue-building activities to generate sales and achieve customer satisfaction.
- Develop new CE design win business securing RFP’s, making proposals and conducting presentations approved under sales management frameworks.
- Provide prospect profiling and market intelligence on business prospects that are beneficial to business development strategy formulation in the mobile, digital camera, digital TV/STB/player, car infotainment and game console markets.
- Perform duties in a timely and efficient manner and work on sales leads identified through cold calling or events sponsored or promotional campaigns or business referrals.
- Identify, communicate and respond to opportunities that would impact sales and customer satisfaction with each client including regular communications, answering client queries.
- Work with key existing customers to proliferate Monotype Imaging technology across sister divisions and other inter-division product groups.
- Work with major partner companies to jointly promote respective value propositions/solutions, attend joint prospect meetings, identify new design win opportunities and maintain relationships with local partner sales people/sales agents.
- Effectively communicate customer/partner technology and business requirements to Monotype Imaging product marketing and engineering teams.
- Manage, coordinate, attend and conduct presentations when appropriate at customer facilities, major seminars, conferences, summits, trade shows and company sponsored training workshops with assistance from the marketing and engineering support teams.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date sales/services records of all activities ensuring that all relevant departments receive the necessary information as required an in a timely manner.
Requirements:
- An excellent sales track record selling OEM software solutions to C-level clients in Japan.
- Confidence in dealing with V-level and C-level contacts.
- Fluent English and Japanese language skills.
- Excellent written and presentation skills.
- Proven business development track record within the Consumer Electronics space with established, high level management contacts.
- Working knowledge of typography, font scaling technologies and the domestic Japanese industrial double byte font standards is a plus.
- MBA is a plus.
